MLM Success Secrets Decoded – Top 5 Reasons Why Your Downline Won’t Grow
MLM Success Secrets to Duplication
This post on MLM success secrets will not make sense to everyone. Quite frankly, most people in our industry don’t generate enough personal activity for downline duplication to be a problem they should be concerned with. They spend too much time, trying to generate too great a result with too few people. Their problem could be easily solved by going out and sponsoring more people.
No my friends, this particular post is for the movers and shakers. This one is for those who have sponsored 10, 15, 20, even 30 or 40 people PERSONALLY. You, who by most other people are considered an mlm success story by your peers.
And yet, you’re miserable. Sure, you’ve got personal mlm success, but when you look down at your team, you are the only person who’s business is growing. A victim of your own ability to sponsor new reps, you’re forced to continue sponsoring new reps in order for your team to grow.
Rather than a cash cow, residual income machine, you’ve got another JOB. And you didn’t join “Company X” to be an employee, did you? If you knew that this was what it meant to be an mlm success, you never would have signed up, would you?
Quite honestly, if you’re building your business this way, while it is still probably 10 times better than your job, it’s not at all helping you to create what every network marketer signs on the dotted line for: FREEDOM. Not only having the income to do whatever you want, but also having the available TIME to do it.
You want to make the income you’re making with your business right now, but you don’t want to have to work it 40+ hours per week for it to grow, right? You’ve seen all of the success videos, the lifestyle videos, the big checks and the fancy cars. You’ve been on the webinars where the top producer talks about going on vacation for 6 months, coming back, and having a larger business and more money than when they left, and YOU WANT THAT kind of mlm success, right?
I’m going to layout for you the 5 biggest reasons holding back your team’s growth, and preventing you from achieving authentic mlm success. It doesn’t matter what business you’re a part of, these 5 things are what’s keeping your business in purgatory.
- Your new reps can’t do what you do to sponsor new reps
- You don’t have a duplicatable system for your new reps to plug into
- You aren’t doing enough to help your new reps get started
- You’re more focused on “closing” than “opening”
- You’re sponsoring the WRONG people
MLM Success Secrets Explained
1-Your new reps can’t do what you do to sponsor new reps-This can happen when you’re using online or offline marketing, but I have to admit that I see it the most with people who use online marketing strategies to build their mlm success.
You’ve built a blog (for example) that generates thousands of leads each month, gets tons of traffic on autopilot, and helps you sponsor 40-50 new reps each month. That’s awesome, and the information to do what you’ve done is readily available for any person to pick up, and have ridiculous mlm success with.
But the fact of the matter is, most people just will not duplicate that, even though they can. For whatever reason, the reps you sponsor will perceive that as way too difficult, and they just won’t do it. I know plenty of internet marketers who have built huge personal teams, but their business is a revolving door because none of the reps they sponsor is making a dime. Want to build huge mlm success? Get your new people making a check before month 2 of their business is over, or there won’t be a month 3.
2 – You don’t have a duplicatable system for your new reps to plug into -This ties directly into #1. If your new reps don’t see what you do as easy, they won’t do it. If too many steps are involved, or if they have to create anything to make it happen, it’s not getting done. There will always be exceptions, who take their mlm success into their own hands, but you cannot build a huge team based on exceptions. Provide your team with a system that a ditch digger or a PHD can use and have the same level of success with, or your team’s growth will always be stunted.
3 – You aren’t doing enough to help your new reps get started – Would you leave a newborn baby out in the woods to fend for itself? It seems like a pretty stupid question, yet everyday, people sponsor new reps into their network marketing businesses, and leave THOSE babies out in the woods to fend for themselves. That new rep on your team knows NOTHING about our industry, or how it works. Even if they are a veteran of the industry, they know NOTHING about your company, how it works, and your processes and procedures. So for them to have a fighting chance at achieving mlm success, you’re going to have to work with them closely.
For me, when I personally sponsor a new rep, for the first 60 days my goal is to be a physical example for that person. I’m going to help them get started right, do meetings for them, make calls for them, and basically have them be my apprentice so they can learn while they earn. I want that new rep to know that I’m just as personally involved with their mlm success as they are.
After that, my role changes to more of a mentorship role, as they begin to take action on their own. We talk about the successes, the failures, and everything in between, and I let them know how to handle certain situations, and that everything is going to be ok. You build an mlm success team by serving your downline first, and not the other way around.
4 – You’re more focused on “closing” than “opening” – There’s a reason that it is difficult for top salespeople to make the transition from high level sales success to mlm success. In sales, everything you do is based on closing the sale. You may maintain contact with your client, and occasionally upsell them on your newest product, but once that transaction is finished, your relationship with them is pretty much over.
In network marketing, the exact opposite is true. When you sponsor a new coach on your team, that new relationship is JUST BEGINNING. You haven’t closed anything, in fact, you’ve opened the doorway to helping another person accomplish their life’s goals and dreams, and those of their family. The more people you can help to achieve their goals and dreams, the greater your mlm success will be, period.
5 – You’re sponsoring the WRONG people
Now, if you just read all of that and are saying to yourself “I’m doing ALL of those things, Jamie,” then we are left with only one more possible answer. You are good at talking people into your business, but you may not be as good at finding people who want to do the business without you talking them into it. If your goal is residual income, laying on the beach doing nothing mlm success, you’re going to need to identify people who want the same thing that you do, AND are willing to work towards it.
That can be a difficult proposition, but the key for you will be to change around your recruiting process to more effectively screen the people you connect with. This is going to involve the most work on your part, because you will have to learn to identify people you will have to talk into joining your business from people who want to join your business.
Here’s a quick hint, though – you have one mouth and two ears for a reason. If you focus on using them with that ratio in mind, you will find that you can identify wrong people from right people much easier. and will have a much greater degree of mlm success. To put it bluntly, SHUT UP AND LISTEN! LOL
MLM Success Secrets Decoded Conclusion
I’ve seen a lot of people achieve massive mlm success over the years. I’ve been in business with people who make more money before 8AM each day than some companies make all month. But I’ve watched many more people leave this industry cursing, mumbling and shaking their heads. And when I took an objective look at it, the people who were taking massive action, but not achieving like they wanted to were deficient in one of the 5 areas above.

What a fantastic post Jamie!!! You got it…you nailed it…the team must SPREAD!!
The fire that begins within us must be spread to others. But it must also be stoked so that their flame continues to grow and spread to others….and so on and so forth!! That’s how the revolution happens!
Once again you Nailed it on the head
Michelle, thanks for the comment. That’s exactly right-the key is, having something in place that is simple for you new coaches to do and get results.
Kai, thanks for the comment, I try my best to put out content people can actually use
great advice so many of us should follow your example
WOW!
This was a VERY informative post, Jamie. You’ve pretty much explained WHY everyone should strive for duplication and how to do it.
Without duplication you are still basically an employee. The trick to becoming free is making money from OTHER PEOPLE’S work.
Like in my last blog post you cover sponsoring the wrong people. There’s a lot of things you have to consider before sponsoring someone, and that is just making sure they are fit to the challenge of becoming a network marketer.
Great post!
